Kootu Curry

Ingredients:
1. Black Chickpeas / Kadala - 1 cup (soaked in water overnight)
2. Raw Plantain - 1 big (diced)
3. Yam - 1 cup (diced)
4. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
5. Red Chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
6. Peppercorns - 10-12
7. Grated coconut - 1 cup
8. Dry red chilli - 3-4
9. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
10. Mustard seeds - 1 tsp
11. Grated coconut - 2 tbsp
12. Curry leaves - 1 sprig
13. Coconut oil - 2 tbsp
14. Salt to taste

Preparation:
1. Cook the chickpeas in a pressure cooker for 3-4 whistles. Drain away the water and keep aside
2. Cook the yam and raw plantain with little turmeric powder, salt and water until soft and tender. Drain away the water. Mix with the cooked chickpeas adding salt as required and keep aside
3. In a blender, grind together grated coconut, cumin seeds, pepper corn to a coarse paste.
4. Add this coarse paste to the cooked veggies and chickpeas. Mix well.
5. Heat oil in pan. Splutter mustard seeds, curry leaves and dry red chilli. Add 2 tbsp grated coconut and fry till it turns golden brown
6. Add the seasoning to the curry and mix well
Serve hot with rice
