Muthira Varutharacha Curry - Kerala Style / Horse Gram Curry

Ingredients:

1. Horse Gram / Muthira - 3/4 cup
2. Green Chilli - 3-4 (cut into slits)
3. Turmeric powder - 1/2 tsp
4. Grated Coconut - 1/4 cup
5. Salt to taste

For Tempering:
1. Mustard Seeds - 1/2 tsp
2. Cumin seeds - A pinch
3. Dry Red Chilli - 2
4. Curry leaves - 5-6

Preparation:
1. In a pan, fry the horse gram on a medium flame till it turns brown (do not over fry). Remove to a plate and let it cool. Put into a grinder and grind well
2. Pour water into the ground horse gram, wash and drain away the water carefully
3. Cook in a pressure cooker with salt, green chilies, turmeric powder and  enough water, for3-4 whistles. Drain away excess water
4. Again put in a blender to form a thick paste (optional)
5. In a small kadai, heat oil and splutter the mustard seeds, cumin seeds and dry red chilies. Then add the curry leaves
6. Now add the horse gram paste and grated coconut
7. Mix well and cook till it boils
Serve hot with plain rice
