Mussels Fry / Kallumakkaya Fry

Ingredients:
1. Mussels / Kallumakkaya - 1 pound / 0.45 kg
2. Turmeric powder - 1 tsp
3. Pepper powder - 1/2 tsp
4. Red chilli powder - 1/2 tsp
5. Green chilli- 1
6. Shallots / small onion - 2
7. Curry leaves - 3-4 leaf
8. Cumin seeds - 1/2 tsp
9. Ginger - 2 small peeled pieces
10. Garlic cloves - 5-6 (big)
11. Salt to taste
12. Oil to fry

Preparation:
1. Clean the mussels shells and put in boil water with little turmeric powder and salt. Keep boiling until the shells open up
2. Scoop out the mussel from the shell and clean by removing the black part at the bottom of the mussel and a fibrous hairy thing
4. Grind a paste with ginger, garlic, curry leaves, shallots, green chilli and cumin seeds.
5. Mix the ground paste with turmeric powder, red chilli powder, pepper powder and salt. Add the cleaned mussels to this mixture and marinate for at least 1 hour
6. Heat oil in a pan and fry the mussels until brown and crispy
Serve hot as side dish with plain rice
